ABOUT THE WEST ALLIS FARMERS MARKET

The West Allis Farmers Market offers a wide variety of seasonal produce, fresh meats and eggs, honey and maple syrup, fresh-cut flowers and annual plants, and prepared foods. Our 2024 season will start May 4.

Each year the Farmers Market is open from the first Saturday in May through the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We are open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 1 – 6 p.m. Please note we are closed Independence Day and Thanksgiving Day.

We open later in the day to allow the farmers to bring only the freshest produce, picked that morning, to the market.

Established in approximately 1919, the West Allis Farmers Market had been a source of fine fresh produce for generations of families. Grandparents and parents have brought their children and relatives to shop at one of the largest, if not the oldest, established Farmers Markets in southeastern Wisconsin.

One reason that the West Allis Market shines above the rest is that all the farmers at the market have to raise what they sell. If you want only the freshest produce grown in Wisconsin, shop the West Allis Farmers Market.

The market is the largest open-air market in the Metropolitan Milwaukee area. Its initial establishment reflects the European practice of shopping daily in such markets that were familiar to many area residents.

What’s at the Market?

The West Allis Farmers Market is open from the first Saturday in May through the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. We open later in the day to allow the farmers to bring only the freshest produce, picked that morning, to the market. Farmers may leave early if all produce has been sold.

A wide range of produce arrives at the market throughout the year. The early season brings bedding plants, radishes, asparagus, and rhubarb. Strawberries and raspberries arrive in June as well as zucchini, squash, peas, snap beans. Corn arrives about a week after July 4 along with many other squashes and herb plants. The late season brings fresh apples, squash, and root vegetables. If you can’t pick it yourself, the West Allis Farmers Market is your best bet. In addition to seasonal produce, honey, eggs, fresh meat, baked goods, fresh cut flowers and seasonal plants are available at the West Allis Farmers Market.
